This year’s Earth Day theme, Our Power, Our Planet, underscores the vital role of community action in safeguarding our environment, and it strongly reflects the heart of our work.
On the occasion of this year’s Earth Day, we’re proud to spotlight our project: Developing #LocalCapacity for Monitoring Threatened Odonates of the Obudu Plateau.
Our team of conservation scientists, led by Abiodun Matthew Adedapo, PhD, recently hosted a Townhall Meeting with community stakeholders at Obudu Ranch, Cross River State, Nigeria. This gathering represents a meaningful step toward strengthening collaboration between researchers and local communities to protect the region’s fragile montane ecosystems.
Among other objectives, this project, powered by a second Rufford Foundation Grant, will equip and train community members to become citizen scientists, recording and sharing scientifically rich data on dragonflies, damselflies, and water quality in the area.
Together, we are harnessing community power to protect our planet, one ecosystem at a time.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project!
