A memorable day for #freshwaterscience at #ObafemiAwolowoUniversity, Ile-Ife

24th of September 2026, our Executive Director had the honour of receiving H.E. Mr Daniel Krull, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, German Consulate Lagos, at Obafemi Awolowo University for the formal handover of research equipment awarded to him through an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) equipment subsidy.

The equipment will strengthen his research on freshwater biodiversity, ecosystem health, and conservation in Nigeria, while supporting student training and collaborative research.

He was deeply grateful to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB), Berlin, and his academic host, Dr Sami Domisch, for their support and collaboration.

He appreciated the leadership of Obafemi Awolowo University, particularly the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. S. Bamire; the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. O. A. Adesina; and the Head of the Department of Zoology, Prof. A. A. Adedeji, for their support and presence during this important occasion.

Finally, he is looking forward to putting the equipment to work in the laboratory and field, and to ensuring that the opportunities it creates extend beyond his own research to benefit students, early-career researchers, colleagues, and collaborators.
